Eternity of Ice

Time for another fairy tale photomanip and this time's another one of my favorites...the complex, fascinating tale of The Snow Queen.
The popularity of the story often baffles me because it is SO intricate and layered and covers everything from the nature of evil to the concept of blind faith, both religious and merely "spiritual", that seeing it summarized in children's book is very difficult to imagine.
Besides all those fascinating elements probably my favorite thing in this gorgeous Hans Christian Andersen tale is the deeply rooted love between Gerda and Kay, two wonderful characters who share so much, and are a very rare example of fairy tale love that slowly but fatally develops rather than being "love at first sight".

In my piece I went for a dark approach as usual, and I captured the moment when Gerda tries to help a blinded Kay to spell the word "eternity" using ice, the only way to escape the evil queen's kingdom.

I LOVE LOVE the models I found for Kay and Gerda, they are gorgeous and fit together beautifully, I hope they're reading this because they were such inspirations for the piece.
