Ok guys, whoever is reading this - I really need a honest opinion about this piece. You see, a few of months ago I started following this cartoonist course that is being issued by the Italian school for Disney artists, it's nothing too serious or fancy, I mean, it's something you can buy every two weeks at the news stand, but at the same time it is also extremely detailed and well written and it features a lot of tips and techniques which I'm finding very helpful. I just want to know if it is somehow showing. I'm not sure if there's a real improvement and I'd really value somebody else's opinion.
Before Christmas I fell in love with Stephen Sondheim's masterwork Into the Woods and I started a series of characters from the musical as an exercise with this new, "trained" approach. What you see here is the first one I did more or less 3 months ago, the Childless Baker. I didn't put much work into the backgroud for two reasons: 1. my main concern is the character design and 2. I'm planning to do some more elaborate compositions with entire groups of characters as soon as I get the others done. So this is some sort of sneak peak from the bigger project I'm pursuing - so keep in mind that the background and the general composition of the picture are temporary!
Hey, he's alive! I don't know what Into the Woods is (as usual) but I like this a lot, I think you did wonderfully on the textures of the clothes - the pants, for example, look awesome, and I love all the "thread" detail on his coat and shoes. Awesome, loving work, as usual

Sweet, I forget any of the lyrics to the baker's song. Is it just me or does act 2 really really depress you.

Well, I'm no amazing artist, but I think it's wonderful ^^ The colors are excellent and I think you really captured the character. Into the Woods is tied with Assassins for my second favorite Sondheim musical ever! (Sweeney Todd takes first everytime x3) The Baker is actually my favorite character, as well. Great work, I'll be keeping an eye out for more in the future :]
That's an improvement, alright! The first thing that popped to my head when I saw was, 'whoa, he's been practising!'
Not familiar with Into the Woods, but seems like an interesting character nonetheless! Like the colour palette. There are still a few anatomical issues I notice, but nothing too prominent. Besides, you said this was done ca 3 months ago, so you've probably improved even more since then with all this practice. Keep at it, looking forward to see more of this!
